Phil was a lovely caring man, we had known him for nearly 10 years. phil was a special special man like no other.
I remember the first time I met him, he worked in a discount shop in clacton for many years, I remember asking to buy something and he laughed, I said to him" you look like my uncle" and he laughed again. little did I know at that time that you would turn out to be a friend for 10 years. The next time I saw you about a week later you were in our local club talking to my husband, I said to you " I know you" phil replied "Yes" from the shop, well that was it a friendship was formed. Phil was a very quiet man who would do no harm to anyone. Abit of a loner really. Also he was like a man with no hands when he got paid, drinks all round lol.
Phil would often disappear from the club for 10-15 minutes and would reappear with a box of chocolates for me and sweets for our son.
We would often pop a pound into the fruit machine together and if we won we would split it, we didnt win very much though lol. Phil would spend christmas with us or his boss and family, he would eat his dinner have a drink and then I would drive him home, we were happy in the knowledge that at least he wasnt alone at christmas. When phil lost his job he seemed to change and prefer his own company, sitting at home with a drink. But phil fell ill last year and was in hospital for a number of weeks.
Eventually phil was allowed home, he was moved to a nicer place were people could check on him and see if he was ok.
Phil started to struggle to walk and had a scooter which he got around on.
He started to drink more too, which he had stopped under doctors orders.Phil was such a special man that we asked him to be a godparent to our son, which he did with pride I may add.Phil you had so many friends who thought the world of you. We didnt get to say good-bye to phil last friday 14th dec, as he was found dead in his flat. We are so sorry for that phil, so sorry that you died alone. I hope you know phil what you meant to stan and I, and all your friends at the commrades club in clacton-on-sea. We have lost a very special man who could never ever be replaced. I so hoped that when luke your godson turned 18 that you would be here to take him for a pint. I am sure phil wont be far away from the ones that loved him. God bless you phil till we all meet again. xxxxxx

The Faith Trophy

Phil I hope you were with us last night at the presentation for the faith trophy, another fantastic amount for the s.c.b.u in colchester. You helped to start the Faith trophy phil so, in memory of you your name will go the trophy as you always wanted, you got to the final so many times but before it was played you would have had a few to many and never won, much to your annoyance ha, this year you have your name there as you should have won it time and time again, you were such a great darts player. Your lovely family were there on your behalf, they also brought one of your trowels for your godson luke to keep as a momento from you, we shall give it to him when he is old enough to understand and take care of it. Missing you phil always. xxxx

Never forgotten

To phil and all your loving family

I just wanted to say a big thank-you to you all, firstly to phil for being a very good loyal devoted friend, you meant the world to us and everyone that had the privilege to meet you. You will never be forgotten, I promise you that. Now to your lovely family, we have spoken to a couple since you left us, thank-you for taking the time to contact us,we appreciate that. Such a shame we didnt get to meet them before, and hear all the stories of what you got up to in your younger days, now that would have been worth hearing, you would joke with stan about me and you getting together, your dream woman!! now that made us laugh, as we did all the time. We are so going to miss you phil always and forever. But one day we will see you again and have those laughs like we always did. Until then phil watch over your family and friends. Look after our little angels jamie and faith, but dont be showing them any bad habits ha ha. Give us all strength tomorrow when we say good-bye to you. xxxx
